This Easter is going to be unlike any we have celebrated before because it’s 2020 and we are living in a time unlike any other. Most of us across the United States are quarantined in our homes and will be unable to celebrate Easter with our extended families and friends. Likewise, our kids will be unable to participate in traditional Easter activities, like egg hunts.
Instead of letting this be a disappointment, use this as a time to make some new traditions in your family. Whether you try just one of these indoor Easter activities or you fill your time with a whole slew of them, I hope your family makes the best of this Easter!
Family Bonus: Be sure to take pictures or record videos to share with your friends and family who cannot be with you in person at Easter!

1. Egg Hunt
Just because you can’t engage in community egg hunts doesn’t mean the people in your house can’t have one!
Fun Twists: Maybe the kids hide for the adults and then vice versa, or use mini glow sticks to make the eggs glow in the dark.
2. Guessing Games
Pick a family favorite food and get guessing! Here are just a few ideas to get you started:
- Jelly beans
- Goldfish
- M&M’s
- Chocolate eggs
3. Chocolate Fondue
We all love giving and receiving the classic chocolate Easter bunnies, but they often go to waste because they are too huge to finish.
An easy solution – melt down any chocolate Easter candy into fondue! You can dip anything in it: marshmallows, strawberries, pretzels, bananas, graham crackers, green apples…the options are endless!
4. Easter Brunch
Perhaps the greatest Easter tradition to adopt if you haven’t already. After you live-stream your church’s Easter service or hunt for the eggs hidden by the Easter Bunny, cook up your favorites and enjoy a family brunch!
My favorites: French Toast Casserole, Western Omelet Quiche, Banana Pancakes, and Granola Cups with Yogurt and Fruit
5. Relay Races
- Egg Toss – two people stand opposite one another and toss an egg until someone drops it; challenge yourselves by taking a small step backward after each successful toss
- Egg & Spoon Race – mark two ends with tape (or another marker) on the floor and don’t drop the egg off the spoon!
Fun Addition – create an obstacle course for each race!
6. Bunny Hop
Learn the classic Bunny Hop dance by reading detailed instructions or watching a short YouTube video.
Send your friends a video and challenge them to learn the dance too!
>> You could even share it live on Zoom and then play some of our Best Games for Zoom!
7. Homemade Easter Cards
Give someone the joy of receiving a homemade card from your kids! Plus, there’s never a bad time to practice those writing skills and how to address an envelope.
You could even make pop-up Easter cards!
8. Dying Eggs
Amazon (and pretty much every retailer) sells the classic Easter Egg Decorating Kits. Choose a store that ships to your house so you don’t have to make a special trip out during this time of quarantine.
If you want to go all out without using actual dye, this Easter Egg Decorator Kit comes with 8 markers and a battery-powered machine that spins the egg.
9. Easter Cartoon Drawings Tutorial
Spend the afternoon learning to draw cartoons together! This is a very easy-to-follow tutorial of how to draw an Easter Bunny. There is no shortage of tutorials on YouTube about how to draw anything and everything.
10. Fingerprint Bunnies
Once you choose your colors and ready your fingers, you’re all set! You can decorate anything with your fingerprints – greeting cards, a canvas, or even tea towels!
This tutorial shows you how to turn your fingerprints into a fun Easter greeting card.
If you fancy yourself an amateur artist (not me!), try out these written directions to create a whole Easter scene.
11. Egg Shakers
While you may make these egg shakers at Easter time, they are a great toy and instrument that will last all year long! We like to shake them along to music in our house.
Our favorite fillers are rice and beans, but you can really use anything you like! Check out this egg shaker how-to guide to learn how to make your own!
12. Pin the Tail on the Bunny
This could be as simple as purchasing the Pin the Tail on the Bunny Easter Game, or you can DIY this game!
Do It Yourself:
1. Print (or draw) a picture of a bunny.
2. Use pom-poms, cotton balls, or draw your own bunny tails.
3. Use tape or adhere velcro to the tails, and have fun!
13. DIY Egg Garland
This is my absolute favorite type of activity – one that includes limited supplies, materials I already have at home, and a simple list of instructions.
Check out the easy directions for Simple DIY Easter Egg Garland.
14. Peeps S’mores
Think regular s’mores, but with Peeps instead of traditional marshmallows.
If you’re having a hard time recalling your inner child, here you can read the directions to creating Peeps S’mores.
15. Easter Scripture Egg Activity
Let’s not forget why we truly celebrate Easter. Share this interactive activity with your children to teach and recall the Easter story. The eggs and objects in them help bring the story alive and make it more relatable.
This Easter Scripture Egg Activity will require a little planning, so leave yourself a little time to prepare the 12 eggs.
16. Easter Movies
You’ve spent lots of time playing different Easter-themed games and being entertained by all sorts of Easter activities. Now, sit back and relax – enjoy one (or more!) Easter movies.
- Peter Rabbit
- Jesus Christ Superstar
- Hop
- Here Comes Peter Cottontail (The Original Classic)
